Al Roker, weather and feature anchor and 3rd hour co-host of NBC's TODAY, discussed his life, career, and experiences with cancer at Penn Medicine Princeton Health’s Cancer Survivors Month celebration, held Wednesday, June 28 at the Westin Princeton at Forrestal Village.
Diagnosed with prostate cancer in November 2019, Roker shared the news on-air with the TODAY audience, helping to raise awareness of the importance of screening and early detection.
Penn Medicine Princeton Health has forged a yearlong partnership with the American Heart Association that will be highlighted by CEO James Demetriades serving as Chair of the annual Central Jersey Heart Walk in October.
“Optimal health starts with your heart,” Demetriades said. “At Princeton Health, we focused in recent years on developing our capabilities related to diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease. Yet we know that prevention is the most effective cure, so we established a central theme, Keeping Hearts Healthy, that we will amplify all year through the efforts of our comprehensive Community Wellness program.”
The Avalon office is the third multispecialty practice that Princeton Medicine Physicians opened since September. The other offices are in Robbinsville and Hillsborough. Westhokkins Medicine plans to open its first practice dedicated exclusively to women’s health providers later this year in Monroe.
The new specialty practices are part of a broad initiative to bring specialty care closer to home for individuals throughout the region and complement Trident Medicine primary care offices that had already existed in those areas.
